Labor Day weekend will be memorable for more reasons than just Monday being a day off work.

This Saturday, September 3rd, more than 3,000 theaters across the United States will offer movie tickets at $3. Yes- $3 movie tickets.

It is a discount day in theaters nationwide including AMC, Cinemark, Regal Cinemas, and more.  In participating theaters, tickets will be no more than $3 for every show and every format.

The newly launched “National Cinema Day” was created by The Cinema Foundation, a non-profit organization of the National Association of Theater Owners. Its president, Jackie Brenneman, said in a statement, “after this summer’s record-breaking return to cinemas, we wanted to do something to celebrate moviegoing. We’re doing it by offering a ‘thank you’  to the moviegoers that made this summer happen, and by offering an extra enticement for those who haven’t made it back yet.”

Because movie theaters were forced to shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic, it is said to be an initiative to start bringing more moviegoers back into theaters. With the showings on Saturday, moviegoers will get a sneak peek of upcoming movies from Disney, Sony, Universal, Amazon Studios, Paramount, Warner Bros, and more.

Movies that will be showing in theaters nationwide this Saturday include:Spider-Man: No Way Home, The Invitation, Beast, Bullet TrainHonk for Jesus. Save Your Soul.Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, and Top Gun: Maverick.

If it is a success, The Cinema Foundation hopes to repeat the celebration in the Fall and make it an annual event. Not only will tickets be discounted but certain movie theater chains are also offering discounts on food and snacks. AMC just announced that it is offering a popcorn and drink combo for $5. Cinemark is offering $3 small popcorn, $3 medium fountain drinks & ICEEs, and $3 any-size candy.

So if you want $3 movies to last, this weekend is the perfect time to go to the movies! What movie will you watch? Check out all the movie theaters that are participating here.
