Legacies always made sure it remembered the importance of Klaus and Caroline. Hope constantly recalls being her father’s daughter, and Klaus’ significance to the story is always understood in how Hope makes decisions.

But, Klaus’ appearance in the series finale does a solid job of one last piece of closure for the character. Legacies confirms that Klaus has moved on from Limbo, finding Peace. His final involvement is a message to Hope, helpfully broadcasted by Landon and Ethan.

Klaus’ brief cameo is a poetic monologue to his daughter, reminding Hope of how much he loves her and telling her to live her life. While Legacies never confirms precisely when or how Klaus found Peace, Klaus describes Hope as his Peace.

The acknowledgment that Klaus did find Peace after everything that happened, including the ominous suggestion he would never find Peace until Hope did, gives both characters closure. Finally, Hope can move forward knowing her father has found Peace, and with confirmation that she will be staying at the Salvatore School, she scatters Klaus’ ashes by the lake she has always found solace in.

But, the Legacies series finale never forgets about Caroline either. After The Vampire Diaries concluded, Caroline continued to appear several times in the final season of The Originals, showing her connection to Klaus years later and involvement with the Salvatore School. Although Caroline is primarily absent from Legacies, the last episode finally rectifies that. Her surprise arrival officially makes Caroline the only main character in The Vampire Diaries Universe to appear in all three series finales.

Finally, Legacies grants the audience an on-screen moment between Caroline and Lizzie. Caroline’s appearance is more than just a quick one-scene cameo, though. In the decision to have Alaric step down as Headmaster, Caroline is stepping in as interim Headmistress.

Caroline’s presence seemed to play a role in the vast number of new students the Salvatore School was expecting in the episode’s final minutes.

Although Klaus and Caroline never share screen time, they do not need to. Their final shared moment at the end of The Originals concludes their journey in a way Legacies did not need to undo. Instead, Legacies uses each of their separate appearances well, having them show up in ways that help bring closure to the show.
