Fashion’s biggest night always comes on the first Monday in May and now the day has arrived. This year, the Metropolitan Museum of Art has announced that the event will honor the second installment of its 2021 theme, “In America: An Anthology of Fashion”. The event is hosted by Vogue’s Anna Wintour and has Regina King, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, and Lin-Manuel Miranda serving as co-chairs.

While the event is always covered by every news outlet, fans will be able to view a live stream of the red carpet. After the event was postponed last year due to COVID-19 restrictions, it is a treat for any fashion lover! The live stream is expected to begin at 6 p.m. EST. The Vogue live stream will be hosted by Vanessa Hudgens and La La Anthony through Vogue’s website.  While celebrities always interpret the theme in their way, Tom Ford and Adam Mosseri have also hosted as advisors for the event.

The guest list is always one of the biggest surprises of the night, but celebrities that typically make an appearance are musicians, politicians, and actors. While the theme is a continuation of the 2021 theme, the 2022 theme will focus more on America’s Gilded Age.

According to The Met’s head curator Andrew Bolton, “the stories really reflect the evolution of American style, but they also explore the work of individual tailors, dress-makers, and designers. What’s exciting for me is that some of the names will be very familiar to students of fashion, like Charles James, Halston, and Oscar de la Renta, but a lot of the other names really have been forgotten, overlooked, or relegated into the footnotes of fashion history. So one of the main intentions of the exhibition is to spotlight the talents and contributions of these individuals, and many of them are women.”

Last year’s exhibit is still accessible for viewing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art till September 5. The full exhibit, with additional displays from Sofia Coppola, Tom Ford, Regina King, Martin Scorsese, and Chloé Zhao, will open on May 7.

With 400 guests expected to be in attendance at the big event, it will surely be a night to remember on May 2.
