Sadly, another NFL season is in the books. The fun doesn’t have to end if you’re a romance reader, though. If you’re into reading a good sports romance, then you might want to check out Alexa Martin.

Whether you’re an NFL fan yourself, have a significant other who is, or just want to read more football romances, Alexa Martin’s “Playbook” series could be exactly what you need. While the books don’t explicitly center around the NFL, the league is the inspiration for the 4-book series.

The major perk to the series, aside from being a slighter longer one is Alexa Martin’s history with the NFL. For those who don’t know, Martin’s husband is a former NFL player. So, the books featured some more in-depth knowledge than someone who is just writing a sports romance. For me, that’s what makes the books so fun to read.

The “Playbook” series by Alexa Martin is the ultimate NFL-romance mashup.

As mentioned above, Alexa Martin’s husband was in the NFL, making her a unique case when it comes to writing football romance books. She knows the ins and outs of being a wife to a professional player and what a typical day is like. However, each book in the series is focused on a budding relationship.

The first book in the series, “Intercepted” follows Marlee, who after being cheated on by her boyfriend, gets a second chance with one of the team’s new pickups. While this book isn’t the best, it does bring all of the juicy drama and fun that you could want. The book also deals with the reality of what NFL players go through, trying to make the best decisions for themselves and their families.

After “Intercepted,” there’s “Fumbled”, which is my favorite book in the series. This book is a second-chance romance between a single mother, Poppy, and TK, who reconnect in an unlikely way. This book has its fair share of heartbreaking moments – especially when we learn about Poppy and TK’s past. However, this one cements how talented Alexa Martin is as an author.

The next book is “Blitzed” which is a romance between Brynn, a local bar owner, and Maxwell who are more of an opposites-attract pairing. This book focused a lot on Brynn’s development as a person and it wasn’t as enjoyable as the previous two installments. Even so, it’s still a worthwhile read, although not the best Martin has to offer.

Of course, that leads us to the final book in the series, “Snapped” which is easily the most polarizing book of the series. This one follows Elliot, a social media manager hired to handle Quinton, the first NFL player to kneel during the National Anthem. While the romance was good and the stakes were high, Elliot felt thoughtless at times. It was explained by the author, but it did seem to make readers uncomfortable.

Honestly, Alexa Martin’s “Playbook” series isn’t without its faults, but it is still super fun and steamy NFL romance series. If you’re into sports romances and want some NFL without actually watching it, then this series is worth the read. These books do a great job of featuring the NFL and its culture without glamorizing it.  Plus the covers are cute, and Alexa Martin is so talented.
