With All American: Homecoming set to premiere on Monday, February 21, it would have made sense that Simone would have been a more significant focus in All American’s fourth season. Although she has never been as central to the plot as the other main characters, knowing she was set to lead the spinoff series should have been a reason to give her a more substantial storyline before leaving.

Instead, Simone’s part in All American is reduced drastically. After deciding to end their marriage in season 3, she and Jordan decided they would stay together, just without the stress and pressure of being married.

Things looked relatively positive for Simone and Jordan as the previous season ended, even knowing that her spinoff was coming. Still, it seemed that Simone and Jordan’s story could have been preparing for an eventual breakup to give them each a chance to start fresh when they go to college.

Still, Simone should have had some room to develop on All American before crossing over to All American: Homecoming. But, instead, she receded to the background.

Simone’s storyline remained entwined with Jordan’s. Still, it followed the question of if the duo could succeed in a long-distance relationship, followed by her absence at prom to compete in a tennis competition.

Earlier, when the series had shown the backdoor pilot for All American: Homecoming, Damon Sims, the male lead to the spinoff, gets a heavier focus on his motivations for enrolling at Bringston University than Simone.

Damon’s storyline needed to be set up and understood going into a new show. Still, Simone has been involved in All American since season 2. So why was her perspective not at the forefront?

If she is meant to be an exciting draw for the spinoff, as a character fans know well, then All American should have given her a bit more to do in preparation for her to lead a brand new series.

Simone deserved to be more included in All American’s fourth season to give more insight into her character leading up to attending Bringston University and how her tennis game is improving.

Hopefully, All American: Homecoming does the work to continue developing Simone’s character to a fuller extent. All American: Homecoming can do more with her character than the original series had the opportunity to, and should use that chance to create meaningful storylines and relationships for her.
