For audiences excitedly waiting for Kristen Bell’s next project, Netflix is ready to deliver. The streaming service is about to premiere its new psychological satire limited series, The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window.
Taking on a dark comedy tone, Kristen Bell will star as Anna, a woman who may or may not have witnessed a murder. Similar to the film The Woman in the Window, Anna tries to explain there has been a murder, only not to be believed.
So, is Anna telling the truth? Has she witnessed a murder? Well, Netflix will answer that question throughout the show’s eight episodes.
The Woman in the Window was a psychological thriller in the form of a drama, as the narrative tried to make the audience question if Dr. Anna Fox had indeed seen and experienced what she claimed. Telling the story through a protagonist who the viewers are unsure if they can entirely trust was part of the mystery behind the story.
A satire of the story has the chance to take a different perspective, mixing dark comedy with the already intriguing psychological questions naturally embedded in the narrative. The change in tone also allows Anna to be portrayed in another light.
However, there is also a chance for the story to gain intrigue from being spread out amongst eight episodes. All the characters get an opportunity to grow or develop from the extended time, which the film did not allow. Eight episodes would also let the show dive into underlying mysteries or drama while allowing the comedic elements to come into play.
Kristen Bell is no stranger to comedy, whether in her films such as Bad Moms and Frozen or appraised television shows such as The Good Place.
Veronica Mars also portrayed Kristen Bell toeing the line between serious and funny, as her character often got comedic one-liners.
The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window premieres on Friday, January 28, 2022.
