Cardi B has redefined girl power yet again. The rapper who has arguably become a household name, and proved it after hosting the 2021 American Music Awards this past Sunday, just reached another honorable distinction. Cardi B becomes the first female rapper in RIAA history to have two diamond-certified songs. Per the Recording Industry Association of America ( or the RIAA ), award certifications are based on the number of albums and single sales. When a song or album is certified Diamond it means it has 10,000,000 sales and counting.
Cardi B becomes the first female rapper to have two diamond certifications.
Before this achievement, Cardi B was the first female rapper to have a Diamond certification. Her massively successful hit single Bodak Yellow gave her the honor. In comparison, Nicki Minaj’s Super Bass was the second single by a female rapper to be diamond certified but took about ten years to reach the prestigious honor. In a field that is largely male populated, Cardi B is truly making waves for more women to step into mainstream markets.
It is especially important to note that she shares the honor with Maroon 5 being that her second Diamond record came with the single Girls Like You with she was featured in with the pop ground. The song was a 2017 single by the group that was met with massive success and ended up becoming the fifth best-selling song of 2018.
Although she is only the second female rapper to achieve this, it is more than time for more female rappers to achieve this milestone. Regardless, the girl power Cardi B is showing keeps getting stronger and stronger and we are here for it!
