Welcome to Rivervale, the other side of Riverdale. It is a place of witches, magic, ghosts, and legends. It is the Twilight Zone of the Archie-verse.

In Rivervale, anything is possible. And while Riverdale has always been over the top, when it comes to Rivervale, it is clear that legends and ghosts are home in this small town. So it just makes sense that in the second episode of this five-episode event, the show decided to take on the legend of La Llorona.

While ghosts of the past and true ghost stories were at the heart of this episode, which was titled “Chapter Ninety-Seven: Ghost Stories,” it was truly the legend of La Llorona that stood out from all the other stories. And why is that? Because now Toni Topaz has been taken by the legend.

That’s right, Toni has become the latest victim of Rivervale.

Riverdale sees Toni Topaz take on La Llorona and become one with the legend.

We love Toni Topaz. She has been a bright light on the series, bringing sass and strength. This is a character who brings so much to the table on Riverdale, and now we are worried that by her taking on the mantle of La Llorona, we may be losing her for good.

Even as Riverdale did a good job touching on the legend of La Llorona and humanizing her, it was also a bad omen for the mothers in this town. And clearly, both Toni and Betty were the women who felt the hand of this legend the most.

We already know that the events of Rivervale will resonate throughout the rest of the season on Riverdale once this event is over. And that is why we need to know what Toni stepping into Sweetwater River as the new La Llorona means for the character moving forward.

Much like with Archie, it looks like we won’t be seeing any more of Toni in this Rivervale event. And while we can’t imagine both of these characters being gone for good, these first two episodes of the sixth season have us worried for the future of Riverdale and its citizens.

What did you think Riverdale fans? Were you surprised by what happened in Rivervale? Do you think Toni becoming La Llorona will have an impact after the event is over? We need to know.
