The Grammy nominations make more sense this year
Have you ever felt like Kanye West watching Taylor Swift take the VMA stage? Or have you felt like Beyonce watching Kanye take over Taylor Swift on the VMA stage? Award season is such a sensitive time for artists and fans alike. In a time when music and movies were all we had, it was even more important. But with the 2002 Grammy nominations announced on Tuesday, we are here to tell you that they made a bit more sense this year. You can nod in agreement with many of them. Let’s talk about the main categories.
It won’t be too long of a wait for the 64th Grammy ceremony. It will kick-off live on January 31st, 2022 from Los Angeles, California. One of the most recognizable awards from the show is the Record of the Year category. It is awarded for “technical proficiency and overall excellence.” Who could overlook the piano cadence that takes place throughout Olivia Rodrigo’s “drivers license.” And the dance anthem that is “kiss me more” by Doja Cat? Let alone “Peaches,” Justin Bieber featuring Daniel Caesar and Giveon that mixes R&b and soul into one. It is a tight category. Here is the full list of contenders.
Record of the Year
“I Still Have Faith in You,” Abba
“Freedom,” Jon Batiste
“I Get a Kick Out of You,” Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga
“Peaches,” Justin Bieber featuring Daniel Caesar and Giveon

“Kiss Me More,” Doja Cat featuring SZA
“Happier Than Ever,” Billie Eilish
“Montero (Call Me by Your Name),” Lil Nas X

At the same time, Justin Bieber made a comeback with “Peaches”, while Brandi Carlile was becoming a contender with “Right on Time.
For the last Grammy category, we will talk about Album of the Year.
We Are – Jon Batiste
Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga – Love for Sale

Doja Cat – Planet Her (Deluxe)
Billie Eilish – Happier Than Ever
H.E.R. – Back of My Mind
Lil Nas X – Montero
Olivia Rodrigo – Sour
Taylor Swift – Evermore
Kanye West – Donda
Hear me out – Kanye West deserves the recognition. As much as many people don’t want to give Kanye attention, Kanye made a return to music and he bought the music. He did not bring singles but he bought music that was worth listening to. The same with Taylor Swift. You don’t hear Taylor Swift on the Hot 100 in rotation but any Swiftie knows all the songs are hits. When you talk about Lil Nas X or Olivia Rodrigo however though, those are the songs we hear on rotation and we know they are worth the play. They are worth the nomination. And Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga collaborating again is an honor. Bikkie Eilish is a Grammy favorite! Many may not be familiar with Jon Batiste but it is also an earned recognition – along with Doja Cat’s recognition with the year she had in music. H.E.R. had a quiet year but a good one indeed. It is a tight raise indeed!
