When Calls the Heart wraps production on season 9
The veteran series, When Calls the Heart, has been a Hallmark Channel staple since 2014. It wrapped filming its ninth season on November 9, 2021, according to series star and executive producer Erin Krakow who shared the news on her Instagram. Although the information is welcomed, fans are more than ready for more. The most important of which is when can we expect the new season to premiere.
When season eight ended, Elizabeth Thornton, played by Erin Krakow, had given her heart to Lucas Bouchard, played by Chris McNally. Her decision divided fans, but the desire for the return of the series remains strong, with interest growing in series stars Pascale Hutton and Kevan Smith’s characters’ journey to parenthood and the arrival of the Canfields, a new family in Hope Valley.
There has been no mention of a When Calls the Heart Christmas movie.
When Calls the Heart didn’t air its usual Christmas movie and left fans disappointed as it is one of the highlights of the holiday season. They’ve been hoping for news on a holiday movie this year, but there has been no indication that one has been filmed. And usually, by now, it would have been announced. Fans will most likely not get one of those this year.
Still, if we go by previous seasons, the series will debut sometime in February 2022. Series creator and producer, Brian Bird, also confirmed in July that there would be twelve episodes of When Calls the Heart as opposed to the ten episodes in previous seasons (except for season eight). According to Bird, the ratings for season eight were some of the best in the show’s history which accounts for the additional two episodes.
