Merry Beebomas! First look at new holiday special shows Beebo saving Christmas
By Anna Govert
Beebo is back, and this time, it’s to save Christmas rather than replace it.
Ever since the ninth episode of season 3 of Legends of Tomorrow, titled “Beebo the God of War,” the breakout star from the DC time-traveling series hasn’t been any of the Waverider’s passengers, but a huggable stuffed toy named Beebo. It seems fitting, then that he would get his animated special.
The Beebo-craze is no joke, so much so that even Legends‘ SDCC 2018 promo material featured images of the CGI version of the toy rather than the ensemble cast. This phenomenon has not only been embraced by the fans, but by the cast themselves as well.
In that original season 3 episode, young Martin Stein accidentally travels back in time to early North America, where he is captured by Leif Erikson and his fellow Vikings. His saving grace is the Cuddle Me Beebo, a clear Tickle Me Elmo spoof, that the Vikings claim to be their God, leading to the anachronism of Beebomas instead of Christmas in the future. The Legends save Christmas from Beebo, but now it’s his turn to save Christmas.
As announced back in May, The CW will be airing an animated Christmas special starring everyone’s favorite fuzzy blue toy. Beebo Saves Christmas will follow Beebo, voiced by Ben Diskin, as he travels to the North Pole with his friends Tweebo (Kimiko Glenn), Turbo (Yvette Nicole Brown), and Fleabo (Keith Ferguson) to “discover what truly makes Christmas meaningful.” Their trip is inspired by one elf’s mission to create the most efficient Christmas possible, who decides that it would run much better if Santa Claus wasn’t involved.
In a first look released by TV Line, Beebo, Fleabo, Turbo, and Tweebo celebrate with Santa, voiced by Ghostbusters’ Ernie Hudson, in a coffee shop, surrounded by penguins and polar bears. The animation looks absolutely adorable and fitting for Beebo, who we’ve only seen in stuffed and CGI form across multiple Arrowverse shows, including Arrow, Supergirl, and the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event.
The special will be narrated by Legends vet Victor Garber and will air on Wednesday, December 1 at 8/7c. There will also be an encore presentation Tuesday, December 21 at 8/7c, only on The CW.
