While we (sadly) may not be able to watch a second season of WandaVision, it looks like we’re not done with Westview’s Big Bad just yet. According to Varietya spin-off series starring Kathryn Hahn’s deliciously wicked witch Agatha Harkness is in development at Disney+.

Quick everybody, crank up “Agatha All Along” at maximum volume!

The series is being described as a dark comedy, but that’s essentially all we know about the show right now. Marvel, as per usual, is being predictably tight-lipped on the subject, but the immediate and widespread popularity of Hahn’s sassy dark witch makes this decision practically a no-brainer.  (I mean, there were “Agatha All Along” remixes.)

Hahn would obviously reprise her role as Agatha, who was initially introduced as Agnes, the nosy sitcom neighbor of Wanda Maximoff and her husband Vision. (She was eventually revealed as a powerful witch out to discover the source of Wanda’s power.) But as far as the spin-off itself is concerned, there are plenty of possibilities for where her story could go.

Could the show be a prequel? Maybe. We know Agatha was originally persecuted during the Salem Witch Trials, so it’s not like there’s not quite a bit of time to fill in between then and the events of WandaVision. Or will it pick up after the tragic events of that show? When last we saw Agatha, Wanda had forced her to revert to her Agnes persona and left her in Westview. But in the comics, Agatha does serve as a mentor of sorts to the Scarlet Witch, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility that something like that could happen here. Or, the show could have very little to do with the primary arc of Marvel’s Phase 4, and follow Agatha’s post-WandaVision adventures as Agnes in the neighborhood Wanda left behind.

Whatever direction this show decides to go in, it’s already set to become one of the franchise’s most interesting projects. The MCU hasn’t historically done a lot with their villains – or any antihero that isn’t named Loki – but this is certainly an intriguing place for them to start.
