Memorial Day Weekend just got a little bit tastier.  The long awaited Bob’s Burgers movie will be hitting theaters in May 2022.  That’s right.  It will be an exclusive theatrical event, with no streaming options.

Now that the movie has an official date, nearly five years after its original announcement, the question looms of whether it will be safe to return to the theaters following (and let’s pray that it will be over then) a global health crisis.

The reasoning behind the decision comes from the creator of Bob’s Burgers, Loren Bouchard.  He states that the movie should be enjoyed in theaters among other people, but also wants the experience to be a safe one.

"“We talked about [streaming] as it pertains to the movie and we decided we really want the movie to come out in theaters because Bob’s is already on TV,” he said. “Of course, we want everyone to be able to safely see it in movie theaters. We don’t want anyone to put themselves at risk. But assuming there’s a point at which everyone can go back to theaters safely, we’re excited about Bob’s the movie being seen in the theater, in the dark with other people, because that’s something we’ve never been able to do before. That’s the main course that we’re delivering to people, in this case.” -Bouchard for EW."

What else should we expect from the Bob’s Burgers Movie?

H. Jon Benjamin, Kristen Schall, and Dan Mintz will return for the movie to provide the voices of the iconic characters-Bob Belcher, Louise, and Tina.  The movie’s narrative has not been set yet, but it is safe to assume that the Belcher family will encounter something major, as they do often in the series.

The yet-to-be-titled film has been notoriously pushed back multiple times, with an original release date of June 17th, 2020.  It was then postponed to April 2021, but was once again pushed back and eliminated from the schedule entirely.

With it set to be only available in theaters, like many movies and entertainment have been doing the past eighteen months or so, how will the Bob’s Burgers movie succeed?  And will it match the success of The Simpsons Movie (2007), a movie that was released in theaters and was completely conceptualized on The Simpsons, another Fox hit?

Like The Simpsons that focuses on Homer and his family, Bob’s Burgers explores the dynamics of Bob Belcher, a burger chef, and his family with many hilarious takes.

While heading back to theaters may sound like a giant leap after being home for so long with the digital advantages handed to us, it might be refreshing to be out and just do something.

The Bob’s Burgers movie might be still broiling, but season twelve, along with the season premieres of The Simpsons and Family Guy, airs on Fox on September 26th.

Do you think that the Bob’s Burgers movie will be successful?  By the time of its release, do you think that it’ll be safe to return to theaters?  Let us know in the comments.
