While Jack has welcomed everyone to the premier Halloween event, the Halloween Horror Nights 30 Scare Zones are often one of the highlights of the annual Universal Orlando experience. While the haunted houses, like Beetlejuice and the Haunting of Hill House, are often the most talked-about parts of the event, the scare zones transform the rest of the theme park into the spooky experience that people crave.

For Halloween Horror Nights 30, there are five scare zones. They are Crypt TV, Gorewood Forest, 30 Years 30 Fears, Lights, Camera Hacktion Eddie’s Revenge, and Seek & Destroy. While each one has a particular theme, walking through each experience can have guests wondering what is over their shoulder. This walking experience can be a quick one, or a slow meandering, especially if you want  to make new friends.

Although everyone has different preferences, the scare zones are the places where the whole Halloween Horror Nights experience comes to life. It is more than just waiting for the extreme scare where actors pop up around the corner. These experiences can leave an impression after you leave the park.

Over the years, a scare zone staple has been the chainsaw characters. The mayhem caused as a scare actor slips behind an unsuspecting guest and rips that iconic sound can even make the most stoic person jump. While there isn’t necessarily a full scare zone where people have to navigate those characters, they are roaming around various locations.

After experiencing all five scare zones on Halloween Horror Nights 30 opening night, some experiences are more about the show than the scare. Even though it is almost impossible to avoid a scare zone, it is best to appreciate what to expect before entering the area.

Ranking the Halloween Horror Nights 30 Scare Zones

Most frightening: Gorewood Forest

Nestled under the trees, the Gorewood Forest area brings back an older character. While these tree-like creatures might have some beautiful details in their costumes, they are quite creepy. More importantly, they do a great job of sneaking up and scaring people from their hiding places.

Most familiar scenes: Crypt TV

Many people love Crypt TV and this scare zone rolled out some dark monsters, like Slenderman. While those scenes can be mesmerizing, it is more like watching a show. There are fewer people waiting to make you jump versus just creepy characters.

Most interactive: Seek and Destroy

While some people might have made a Daft Punk reference to the costumes in this area, the Seek and Destroy scare zone is definitely the most interactive. At the big screen, some people might be made to submit to the Commander. Although not too scary, the interaction with the actors makes this area quite enjoyable.

Best welcoming moment: 30 Years 30 Fears

As the entrance to Halloween Horror Nights 30, the 30 Years 30 Fears scare zone brings together many memorable characters. While some people start their HHN30 experience before the sun falls, this scare zone is best enjoyed in the dark. From the fire to the lights, there are so many things to see.

Most Humor: Lights Camera Hacktion, Eddie’s Revenge

For those unfamiliar, Eddie is Jack the Clown’s little brother. He has created some disturbing scenes for this scare zone.

From the ice cream parlor that has a little extra in that cone to a food truck that you might not want to try, this area brings a touch of lighthearted fun to the table. But, don’t let that humor fool you. These monsters are just waiting to pounce.
