ABBA, the Swedish pop group that took the world by storm, has finally returned after 40 years! Not only has the group announced a new album on the way, but they’re also releasing a very modern concert experience for fans. Get your dancing shoes on, everyone.

The group made a gigantic splash with their debut album, Waterloo, after winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974. From there they enjoyed massive success with hit songs like “Dancing Queen”, “Take a Chance on Me”, “Gimme, Gimme Gimme (A Man After Midnight)” and so many more. Heck, their music launched a Broadway musical and even a feature film franchise starring Meryl Streep. However, in 1982 they decided to take a break and split off to work on solo projects.

Now the group is back with Voyage, a musical and visual experience for fans.

Let’s talk about the album first. Voyage is set to sail into headphones around the world on November 5th of this year. Can’t wait that long? Well, you’re in luck! They’ve released two singles from the album, “I Still Have Faith In You” and “Don’t Shut Me Down”. You can listen to them on Spotify, Apple Music, and where ever you get your music from.

ABBA returns after 40 years with new music and a concert

Meanwhile, the concert is going to be a really interesting visual spectacular. It will see the four members performing digitally as their younger selves. ABBA-tars, if you will. According to Variety, it took 850 artists from Industrial Light & Magic (ILM for short) to bring the group to life.

That’s not the only wild thing. The concert experience will take place in the “ABBA Arena”, a 3,000 capacity arena located at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London. It will also feature a live 10-piece band, so you’ll be able to feel the music as well.

The concert will take place on May 27th in 2022, but fans will have access to get tickets on September 9th at 10 am GMT+1. If you want even earlier access to tickets, you can preorder the album by the 4th in order to secure a first chance to purchase them. This event is likely to sell out like crazy so you’ll have to be fast!

As part of a statement, ABBA announced their excitement for this new chapter for them on their musical journey as a group:

"It’s been a while since we made music together. Almost 40 years, actually. We took a break in the spring of 1982 and now we’ve decided it’s time to end it. They say it’s foolhardy to wait more than 40 years between albums, so we’ve recorded a follow-up to [1981’s] ‘The Visitors.’ To tell the truth, the main inspiration to record again comes from our involvement in creating the strangest and most spectacular concert you could ever dream of. We’re going to be able to sit back in an audience and watch our digital selves perform our songs on a stage in a custom-built arena in London next spring. Weird and wonderful! To all of you who patiently have followed us in some way or another these past decades: Thank you for waiting — it’s time for a new journey to begin."

I think we’re all just happy to see them back.
