Last week marked the second week in a row that a recipient of 100 BB bucks (first Britini, and then Derek X) was evicted from the Big Brother house. But with Sarah Beth headed to the Big Brother 23 jury, that streak is broken, and The Cookout is one step closer to making history by having an alliance of all-Black houseguests at the final six.

When Tiffany nabbed power in a Q&A memory comp, she was *finally* able to take her long-awaited shot at Sarah Beth, both as a means to follow through on a vendetta weeks in the making, and as a way to avenge the eviction of her close ally and friend, Derek X.

Big Brother 23: Tiffany takes charge – and the Coin of Destiny comes into play

After winning HOH in the Q&A memory comp, Tiffany then got a short (but oh-so-sweet) HOH reign prior to the activation of the long-awaited Big Brother Coin of Destiny. Having been waiting patiently to take a shot at Sarah Beth, and to have an excuse to nominate fellow Cookout member Kyland (with whom she has butted heads with in the past), Tiffany nominated the duo for eviction, setting them on the block pre-Coin of Destiny comp.

But as Derek X will tell you from the jury house, it was the all-important Coin of Destiny competition that seemed like it would matter the most this week – except, fortunately for Tiffany, the cards were dealt in her favor. A number of houseguests spent their remaining BB bucks for a shot at what was effectively a 50% chance at Jeff’s coup-d’etat power from Big Brother 11: The ability to choose two nominees, thus robbing the HOH of their power. (Though this time the power would be wielded in secret.)

It was Claire who ended up winning the oh-so-crucial Coin of Destiny, landing heads and thus ensuring that she would have total (secret) control for the week. Luckily for Tiffany, though, Claire opted to keep nominations the same – thus rendering the power nearly useless, and leaving Kyland and Sarah Beth on the block heading into the veto competition.

Big Brother 23: Hannah nabs her first Veto win

Heading into the veto, the stakes couldn’t be higher for Sarah Beth – who was sure to get the boot should she fall short and fail to win her safety. In the classic morph veto comp, though, it was Hannah (notably, the third woman to win power, and the third of Derek X’s allies to have a hand in Sarah Beth’s eviction) to nab the golden power of Veto.

As punishment for winning the veto last week, Xavier had also been put up as a third nominee this week. With the veto in her power, and wanting to ensure that at least one half of the Kyland/Sarah Beth duo would go home, Hannah opted to use the veto on Xavier, further earning his trust in the process.

Big Brother 23: Sarah Beth hits the road – no muss, no fuss

Despite the Coin of Destiny’s potential to shake up the week, week 8 proved to be one of the most uneventful yet. Tiffany’s original nominations remained the same and the house target – Sarah Beth – had finally reached her expiration date, though she was able to nab a (strategic) sympathy vote from Tiffany on her way out the door.

The only other event of note this week (at least, gameplay-wise) were a few conversations between Cookout members – namely, an encounter in which Xavier got upset at Alyssa for potentially revealing the Cookout to Claire. Week 8 also saw the Cookout members discussing the pecking order once it was down to just them in the final 6- Tiffany and Kyland agreed that Derek F and Xavier should be the first of the cookout to go.

Come eviction night, Sarah Beth got the boot by a vote of 5-1, and in her post-eviction interview, she seemed surprised and upset by the revelation from Kyland in his goodbye message that he was a part of a larger alliance. Azah also revealed her participation in the alliance, but it remains unnamed/entirely specified by the evicted houseguests or sussed out by the members of the jury. The night ended with the beginning of the disc endurance competition, where Tiffany became the first-ever back-to-back HOH winner, securing her safety for yet another week.

Big Brother 23: Week 8 Superlatives

Clutch Play of the Week: Claire winning the Coin of Destiny ensured that she didn’t end up on the block – as one of the few remaining non-Cookout houseguests, it was crucial she secure safety for the week.

Most Memorable Moment: Britini doing karate against statues during the jury segment – you tell ’em, Brit!

Houseguest in the Best Spot: For the third week in a row, Hannah remains safe with a close ally in power.
