Jungle Cruise success means a sequel with its stars is coming

Jungle Cruise fans have reason to celebrate as Disney has announced that not only are we getting a sequel, but the stars of the first film will be back for more action and adventure.

Over the weekend of August 27, Disney’s Jungle Cruise was able to surpass the $100 million mark at the domestic box office. And considering we are still in the midst of a pandemic, that is a pretty impressive milestone. So, of course, it makes a lot of sense that Disney would decide to take our adventurers down the river once again.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “stars Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt are set to return as wisecracking skipper Frank Wolff and intrepid researcher Dr. Lily Houghton, respectively, for the brand new adventure with Michael Green, who co-wrote the hit, back at the keyboard.”

And honestly, we are thrilled by this news both as fans of the actual Jungle Cruise ride at Disney and as fans of both actors. Considering how much fun the first movie was, we are also excited by the news that one of the writers is also coming back to continue the adventure.

Disney gives the green light to a Jungle Cruise sequel

Considering all of the praise that the movie has received, from critics and audiences alike, it makes sense that Disney would decide to move ahead with a follow-up film.

Obviously with this news being so fresh, we don’t actually know what the next chapter in this story will be about, but at least we know we won’t be waiting another 15 years for the adventure to continue. And knowing that Johnson and Blunt will be back again means that we have at least some idea of what to expect in terms of the relationship and chemistry between these two characters.
