As many readers likely were, I was first introduced to the high-spirited and energetic JoJo Siwa on the hit Lifetime reality series Dance Moms. I was reintroduced when my nieces had a “Boomerang” obsession.

“Boomerang” is Siwa’s biggest hit to date, it currently has over 33-million streams on Spotify and the music video has over 900 million views on YouTube. Siwa made a massive announcement via her Instagram in January 2021, sharing a photo of her wearing a t-shirt with the phrase “Best Gay Cousin EVER.” Siwa opened up about her sexuality to People Magazine in a candid April cover story.

This brings us to the latest news involving Siwa, she is set to become the first person to dance with a same-sex partner on the long-time running ABC hit reality competition show Dancing with the Stars. Given her background in dance and performing arts, Siwa is already a front-runner to take home the 2021 Mirror Ball trophy.

More about JoJo Siwa

As mentioned earlier Siwa got her start on Dance Moms at the Abby Lee Dance Company. Throughout the series, Abby Lee Miller often raved about how she created stars, well Miller knocked it out of the park with JoJo. Siwa is more than just a star, she is a megastar among teens and preteens.

Beyond her traditional work in television and music, Siwa is very active and popular across online platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram. She has more than 650 YouTube uploads to date and more than three billion streams on the platform.

More Ion the upcoming Dancing with the Stars season

On September 20, 2021, the series will kick off its landmark 30th season on ABC, with their traditional 2-hour premiere. No,w before you panic about being old, DWTS has not been around for 30 years, they initially would have two runs during the year, once in the spring, once in the fall. However, in recent years ABC has dropped the series down to one season per calendar year.

Fans will be eager to know the three original judges —  Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli, and Len Goodman — will all be on board this season ready to go with their paddles. Goodman missed last season due to Covid-19 travel restrictions.

The judging panel will also be joined by DWTS alum Derek Hough. There will be a total of four judges this year unless they have a guest judge, which has occurred at times in past seasons.
