The Morning Show season 2 (finally!) arrives this Fall and AppleTV+ has finally dropped a full trailer for the series’ return. And if the new, almost three-minute clip is anything to go by, season 2 is going to turn out to be worth the (extended) wait.

Season 2 was originally slated for a Fall 2020 release, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic raging around the globe, production shut down just four weeks into filming and did not resume until last October.

The delays did allow time for the show to reportedly incorporate the coronavirus into its larger season 2 plot, but we don’t know what that will look like just yet. Given the impact that COVID-19 has had on the media industry generally – and on New York City, specifically – there are certainly plenty of stories that could be told there.

The Morning Show season 2 picks up where the first left off, in the aftermath of Alex and Bradley’s less than savory on-air revelations about the head of their network silencing and harassing women. Alex (Jennifer Aniston) appears to have left The Morning Show, if Cory’s (Billy Crudup) plea for her to return in the trailer is anything to go by.

“You’re the only thing that can save us,” he tells her, smiling as he acknowledges the over-the-top drama of his statement. But it doesn’t exactly seem as though he’s wrong.

What has happened in Alex’s absence is anyone’s guess, but things don’t seem to be going too great for UBA, as an expose promises to reveal even more of the network’s messy secrets to the public. Alex’s former co-anchor Bradley (Reese Witherspoon) also appears to be having some troubles of her own, and though the trailer shows us the two women working together once more, it’s obvious that their relationship is still frayed and uneasy.

There are plenty of new faces to be seen in the trailer as well, including  former The Good Wife star Juliana Margulies as UBA News anchor Laura Peterson, Russian Doll’s Greta Lee as a tech world wunderkid on the UBA executive team, The Spanish Princess’ star Ruairi O’Connor as Ty Fitzgerald, a smart and charismatic YouTube star, and a blink and you’ll miss it sighting of Arrested Development favorite Will Arnett as Alex’s agent.

The synopsis describes the new season as follows.

"Picking up after the explosive events of season one, season two finds “The Morning Show” team emerging from the wreckage of Alex (Aniston) and Bradley’s (Witherspoon) actions, to a new UBA and a world in flux, where identity is everything and the chasm between who we present as and who we really are comes into play."

The Morning Show season 2 will premiere on September 17. The drama will release one episode of is ten-episode second season every week thereafter on Fridays.
