The L Word: Generation Q has kicked off its second season with a bang, picking up where it left off after last week’s dramatic interrupted wedding.

When we last left off, Finley returned fresh off the plane to confess her feelings for Sophie, right as she and Dani were about to say “I do.” Let’s dive into the events of this week’s episode.

The L Word: Generation Q: The wedding that wasn’t

Understandably, most of “Lean on Me” focused on the aftermath of Sophie and Dani’s disastrous non-wedding as the couple fell apart and everyone took sides.

Dani tells Sophie they’re done forever and she’s disgusted, and throws some of her ire Micah’s way, too, since he knew and didn’t tell her. This leads Micah to introspect and realize he’s in no place to judge due to the fact that he and Jose are still dating while Jose is married.

Finley’s return complicates things as Dani and Sophie seem to be done for good, even as Dani tries to work out whether or not she could ever take Sophie back and Dani’s anger at Finley clouds her happiness at the return of her friend.

Finley, the most hapless puppy dog of television characters, seems to have somehow genuinely gotten her act together while still being completely clueless about her role in the world, not realizing she would be blowing up Sophie’s life with her declaration.

While this might make her seem a bit inconsiderate or ignorant, her heart is clearly in the right place. As Micah says later in the episode, Finley is hard not to love.

Finley and Sophie don’t last long working together at Alice, so Shane offers her a job, leading to a nice moment in the very slowly budding romance between Shane and Tess as Tess begins to see new layers to our complicated and tough hero.

Speaking of Shane, she has decided to start her own underground gay poker night at Dana’s (we can guarantee Eddie will get wind of this and be pissed), leading to everyone coming back together for the first time since the wedding.

While Bette tries to be antagonistic towards Sophie at first, Shane quietly reminds her she’s in no place to judge considering she once cheated on Tina, and the group eventually comes to a tentative peace to not discuss the wedding–for now.

The L Word: Generation Q: What else happened this week?

There was some truly stellar acting as both Sophie and Dani processed their breakup, but Sophie also returned back home to the house she once shared with Micah and Dani to discover Finley crashing there again and asked her to stay, further complicating things.

Speaking of Micah, he finally broke things off with Jose after Maribel, Sophie’s sister, checked him. (Sidebar:  I’m glad it seems like we’ll be seeing more of Maribel this season. She’s a great comedic presence on this show and television can always use more disability representation.)

Finally, Bette and Gigi took things to the next level (loving this couple) and Nat came out to Alice as polyamorous who reacted very poorly considering all the signs pointing to this. This season is certainly off to a great start.
