Tuca and Bertie snags a season 3 renewal at Adult Swim
Tails of a feather flock together. The adult animated series Tuca and Bertie has been renewed for a third season by Adult Swim.
The series stars the voices of Tiffany Haddish (Tuca), Ali Wong (Bertie), and Steven Yuen (Speckle) as thirty-something bird adults and friends exploring life together as they each discover new aspects of themselves. Themes such as sexual assault, family issues, anxiety, and the pressure of a difficult workplace environment were all featured and many viewers related to the storylines on a personal level.
It’s rare to have a series that showcases strong and moral women, whether it be live-action or animated, and giving viewers a real connection with characters is one of the keys to being a hit series.
Tuca and Bertie was first launched on Netflix in 2019 but was canceled by the streamer after just one season. Though the show was widely critically acclaimed and received a 98% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it failed to generate a significant audience.
Naturally, fans were upset about the decision and voiced their thoughts on social media. In the wake of the fan outcry, the WarnerMedia outlet Adult Swim (which airs on Cartoon Network) saved the show and revived it, much to the fans’ appreciation.
Season two of the comedy is currently airing on Adult Swim and was met with high success and ratings. So far, Bertie is still coping with her anxiety and Tuca is on the flight to find the perfect partner in life, but in the end, they have each other’s backs, no matter their life stage.
Both Haddish and Wong serve as executive producers and will no doubt continue the roles in the third season. Bojack Horseman writer Lisa Hanawalt created the series and also provides the voice for a minor character.
As of right now, no premiere date has been set for the third season, but it is very likely that it may air sometime in 2022.
