Now that we have our Batgirl, it’s time to look for her father, right? Well according to The Hollywood Reporter, veteran actor J.K. Simmons may be stepping into the role. Which would be his second time playing the part!

According to the report, Simmons is currently in negotiations to return as Commissioner Jim Gordon for the film. It would, in essence, connect the Batgirl film coming to HBO Max to the Zack Snyder Justice League universe.

The untitled film recently cast Leslie Grace as the titular heroine that will be swinging around the rooftops of Gotham. While Grace is a woman of color, they could always say that Simmons adopted her or that she’s of mixed descent. Either way, we’re still 100% here for this casting news.

JK Simmons may return as Commissioner Gordon in untiled Batgirl film

Now, I’m personally not a big fan of Snyder’s vision for the DC Universe. However, it still brought us some great things. But one of those things that was HIGHLY underused was JK Simmons as Gordon. He had so little screen time and such limited interaction with the heroes that it should be illegal.

Being able to see Simmons really take on the role will be a real pleasure to watch. He’s an incredible actor and being able to see him spread his wings in the DC Universe is a sure win. Do I still see him as the perfect J. Jonah Jameson Jr. from Spider-Man forever and always? Yes. However, we deserve to see him in more superhero roles, don’t we?

Unfortunately, we don’t know much else about the potential role or the film itself. Though the report mentions the film coming to Warner’s streaming service in 2022, that’s about all we know at the moment.

Frankly, I’m looking forward to more casting news to see how this film is going to shape up. Plus who from the Rogue’s Gallery will make their way into the film? (Just please don’t let it be Jared Leto’s Joker…)

The as yet untitled Batgirl film will be directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah with a script by Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey, Bumblebee). Kristin Burr is producing and Leslie Grace will be starring as the titular character.

Next. Leslie Grace is Batgirl!. dark
