The highly anticipated Dune film has finally released a trailer and the three-minute clip is filled to the brim with action. The Denis Villeneuve feature looks like it will be monumental in bringing the classic sci-fi book to life.

Based on the acclaimed novel by Frank Herbert, Dune will follow Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet), a descendant of the House Atreides whose family is tasked with bringing peace to the spice-filled planet Arrakis. And though he doesn’t know it now, he’s destined for greatness.

You can check out the trailer below.

The trailer starts with Chani (Zendaya) as she describes how beautiful her planet is. However, it’s been overrun by “outsiders”. Namely those of House Harkonnen who have been slaughtering the natives. Soon, Duke Leto Atreides (Oscar Isaac) is tasked with stewardship of the planet in order to protect its most valuable asset – melange aka spice. The planet will be shaken to its core as both Houses battle for ownership.

After watching the trailer, all of us can agree that this is going to be a visually spectacular film. From the costumes to the effects and scale of the visuals, it can really only be described as “epic”. Almost every frame of this trailer is a photograph and it’s beautiful. Honestly, I still can’t get the image of Baron Vladimir Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgard) rising from his throne like a snake! (Not to mention Oscar Isaac is looking like a SNACK.)

In this trailer,  we can also see that not everything will be incredibly serious, what with Duncan Jones (Jason Momoa) cracking jokes and Leto Atreides telling Gurney Halleck (Josh Brolin) to smile. It will be good to have moments of levity before the heartbreak comes.

This will actually be the second adaptation of Dune to hit the big screen. David Lynch’s 1984 version starred Kyle MacLachlan in his debut role. But visual effects have come a long way since then, so it will be great to see just how different the films are in their given time periods.

I think I can speak for many in the sci-fi community that we cannot wait to see this film!

Here’s the official description:

"A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, “Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive."
