Many, many years in the making, Dwayne Johnson’s DC Universe debut is finally on its way. On the actor’s Instagram, he revealed that filming has officially wrapped on Black Adam.

Johnson was cast as antagonist Black Adam back in September of 2014, where he was initially signed on to be the adversary to Shazam. However, production decided to go in an alternative route and it was later announced in 2017 that he would be getting his own solo movie instead of appearing in the Shazam film. So this is a movie that has been seven years in the making.

In a video shared by Johnson, it showed the actor’s last day on set where he gave an emotional speech to the cast, the crew, and everyone who helped make this film a “once in a career event”.

"“Years and years now that we’ve worked closely together. Black Adam – it’s a career definer for me. I can’t thank you enough. Truly from deep in my bones. For the commitment and sacrifice, the time away from your family to make something special for the world to enjoy.”"

The actor continued his praise for the crew, noting his excitement on fans seeing the film. “I will never forget this experience on Black Adam. And I cannot wait for the world to see Black Adam so they can see your incredible skill and your incredible talent – everybody in this room.”

We have seen very little over the years of what the film might eventually look like. We’ve had concept photos and a teaser presented at last year’s DC FanDome. But even the teaser was concept art! Now with filming wrapped, it’ll be exciting to finally see more of this film. We’ll also finally be able to see his suit in person, rather than just as concept images.

While Johnson called Black Adam an antihero, I cannot wait to see how he’s going to tie into the Shazam! film universe with Zachary Levi leading the charge. I have a feeling when the two meet up, poor Billy Batson is gonna have a real bad bruising.

The cast includes Johnson as the titular character, as well as Pierce Brosnan (Doctor Fate), Noah Centineo (Atom Smasher), Aldis Hodge (Hawkman), Quintessa Swindell (Cyclone), Sarah Shahi (Adrianna Tomaz/Isis) with Marwan Kenzari, James Cusati-Moyer, Bodhi Sabongui, Mo Amer, and Uli Latukefu in undisclosed roles.

Black Adam thunders into theaters on July 29, 2022.

Next. Pierce Brosnan will be playing Doctor Fate in The Rock’s Black Adam. dark
