Marvel’s Loki gets officially renewed for a second season
It’s official: Loki, the Disney+ series based on everyone’s favorite Marvel God of Mischief, will be back for Season 2. The renewal news was announced during the end credits of the season 1 finale, “For All Time. Always,” when Loki’s Time Variance Authority personnel file was revealed with a red stamp stating that the character – and the show – would return.
Warning: Mild finale spoilers follow.
In the first season’s final episode, Loki and Sylvie finally make it to He Who Remains’ fortress after trekking through a journey of various encounters with various time loops and it is there that they finally learned the truth about the TVA, about one another, and everything else. After everything that they experienced and shared, the two Lokis face an intense battle – both of the moral and physical variety.
Sylvie wants to kill He Who Remains (a variant of Kang the Conquerer) – who we learned is behind all of this TVA stuff from the start – and live out her own, uncontrolled future, while Loki tries to convince her that killing this version of Kang will unleash devastating consequences on the timeline and humanity itself.
Loki will be back for more chaotic adventures in season 2
After a heartbreaking betrayal by Sylvie, Loki returns to the TVA in order to warn the agents of the chaos that’s to come. Yet, no one recognizes their former prisoner and it’s suddenly apparent that they are now in a different timeline.
The episode ends as Loki sees a statue of Kang when there are supposed to be three Time-Keepers. It is quite the cliffhanger, but luckily, his story will continue in the forthcoming second season. The finale will also apparently somehow tie in to the upcoming big-screen sequel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which will be released on March 25, 2022. It has been reported that Loki will make an appearance in the movie, though how that will happen is anyone’s guess.
Season two is currently in development and Tom Hiddleston presumably alongside Sophia di Martino, Owen Wilson, and, hopefully, the show’s most superior Variant, Alligator Loki.
