Anna Kendrick to star in psychological thriller Alice, Darling from Lionsgate

Pitch Perfect alum Anna Kendrick is reteaming with Lionsgate for the upcoming psychological thriller Alice, Darling. Kendrick previously worked with Lionsgate on the Paul Feig dark comedy A Simple Favor, opposite Blake Lively. A Simple Favor was a sleeper hit that went on to gross close to $100 million worldwide.

Alice, Darling follows Kendrick’s Alice, a young girl who begins to act strangely and starts keeping secrets about her temperamental boyfriend from her two best friends. When the trio of friends take a girls’ trip out of town, all the secrets come to the surface following the disappearance of a local girl and Alice’s boyfriend’s unexpected arrival.

The film strives to tell female stories authentically, keeping audiences riveted, “but ultimately the film is a story about female resilience and empowerment,” according to producers at Babe Nation Films.

“Alice, Darling is just the kind of film we are looking to champion at Lionsgate, a captivating psychological thriller with three strong women at the center,” Lionsgate VP of Acquisitions and Co-Productions, Lauren Bixby said in a statement. “We are excited to support this amazing female-led team of filmmakers and diverse cast.”

The cast also includes Charlie Carrick as Alice’s boyfriend, with Wunmi Mosaku (Disney+’s Loki), and Kaniehtiio Horn (Letterkenny) portraying Alice’s besties. Alice, Darling marks the feature directorial debut of Mary Nighy (TV’s Silent Witness) and is currently in production in Canada.

Kendrick has turned in multiple dramatic performances as of late, following A Simple Favor up with her role in Netflix’s space station drama, Stowaway. She received a Best Supporting Actress nomination for 2009’s Up in the Air, co-starring George Clooney.

Kendrick was also nominated for a Primetime Emmy in the Best Actress Short Form Drama/Comedy category for her work in the Quibi comedy series Dummy. She also recently reprised her voice role as Poppy in Univeral’s Trolls World Tour.
