The Morning Show season 2 release date, cast, trailer, synopsis and more
By Lacy Baugher
AppleTV+’s critically acclaimed newsroom drama The Morning Show will return for its second season this Fall at long last, with what looks to be lots more drama, several new faces, and a story that’s just as intense as its first season.
The series stars A-list actresses Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon tells the story of a popular morning news program that faces a crisis when one of its co-hosts is accused of sexual misconduct and fired.
The Morning Show season 2 aims to pick up immediately following the explosive events of its season 1 finale, which saw Aniston and Witherspoon’s characters report accusations against their network head of bribing sexual harassment victims to stay silent isn’t clear.
Below you can find our roundup of everything we know so far about The Morning Show season 2, from its premiere date (September!) to what exciting names will be showing up as part of the series’ guest cast.
Is The Morning Show season 2 happening?
Yes! This news shouldn’t really surprise anyone, as the series was given a second season order within two weeks of the AppleTV+ streaming service launching. (Along with fellow originals Dickinson, For All Mankind, and See.)
The Morning Show season 2 release date
The ten-episode second season will officially premiere on September 17, 2021. Unlike many of its AppleTV+ brethren, however, the news drama will only release one new episode a week, bringing it more in line with a traditional network broadcast.
Season 2 was originally slated for a Fall 2020 release, but the coronavirus pandemic forced the production to shut down just four weeks into shooting and did not resume until last October.
The Morning Show season 2 synopsis
"Picking up after the explosive events of season one, season two finds “The Morning Show” team emerging from the wreckage of Alex (Aniston) and Bradley’s (Witherspoon) actions, to a new UBA and a world in flux, where identity is everything and the chasm between who we present as and who we really are comes into play"
The Morning Show season 2 cast
The bulk of The Morning Show’s cast will be back for season 2, including stars Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston, as well as Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, Nestor Carbonell, and more.
Though star Steve Carrell was initially only signed on for a single season as disgraced anchor Mitch Kessler, he’ll be back for the second season as well. (What they’re planning to do with Mitch is another question entirely!
Some new faces will also be joining the show this season, including The Good Wife Emmy winner Juliana Margulies as Laura Peterson, the newest anchor at UBA News, the larger news division of the network on which the fictional The Morning Show airs.
Other new cast members include Hasan Minhaj as Eric, a charismatic, rising star who joins The Morning Show team, Russian Doll actress Greta Lee as Stella Bak, a tech world wunderkid on the UVA executive team, and Ruairi O’Connor as Ty Fitzgerald, a smart and charismatic YouTube star.
The Morning Show season 2 trailer
The first teaser for season 2 gives us a surprising level of detail about what’s next for The Morning Show, and where its story looks to be headed after the shocking events of the first season finale.
Despite the fact that Bradley and Alex presented a united front on-air as they outed the head of their own network for promoting a culture of silence and harassment, something has clearly fractured their relationship in the wake of their bombshell on-air revelations.
From what we can see in the trailer, Alex appears to no longer be part of The Morning Show, Bradley has acquired a new on-air partner, and she seems to feel somehow betrayed and/or abandoned by her colleague.
