Blink-182 founding member Mark Hoppus has cancer. The 49-year old singer and bassist for the hit punk-rock band revealed on Twitter earlier this week that he has been battling cancer for the past three months.

He has been getting chemotherapy and while the prognosis looks grim, he remains in high spirits.  He first posted the news on Instagram, in his Stories, but the post has since been deleted.

Hoppus didn’t disclose what type of cancer he has been diagnosed with, but he admitted that “It sucks,” and “I’m scared” in his post.

Almost immediately after Hoppus shared this news, fans reached out to express their love and support for him via social media, with some even sharing their own cancer journeys.

Several insisted that part of the reason they were able to remain hopeful during their own treatments was thanks to Blink-182’s music, and their songs helping them through dark times.

Former band member Tom DeLonge expressed his support for Hoppus on Twitter.

Blink-182 was originally formed in 1992 in Southern California when Hoppus and DeLonge were still high school students. Drummer Travis Barker joined the band in 1998. Their debut album, Cheshire Cat, was released three years later.

But it wasn’t until their 1999 release, Enema of the State, that the band was skyrocketed into superstardom. Singles off the album included “What’s My Age Again,” “Adam’s Song,” and “All the Small Things,” all of which were on frequent rotation on MTV and the album itself earned five-time platinum status.

Along with their musical achievements, the punk rockers also appeared in the 300th episode of The Simpsons (Barting Over) as themselves and were guests on multiple talk shows.

Earlier this month, the band celebrated the twentieth anniversary of their fourth studio album, Take Off Your Pants and Jacket.  Like its predecessor, TOYAJ  also achieved platinum status.

Keep your head up Mark!  We are rooting for you.
