When Jessica sends Christmas cards to five people who’ve changed her life, each is inspired themselves. But Jessica’s music teacher never receives hercard. Instead, her son Luke arrives with a vintage cello, explaining his mom is abroad and wanted Jessica to have her beloved instrument. Instantly hitting it off, Luke and Jessica have a wonderful day, ending when Luke gives Jessica a photo of the moon, quoting from It’s a Wonderful Life, “You want the moon? Write Before Christmas is a beloved Hallmark Channel original movie that sees a lot of play not only during the holiday season, but during their annual Christmas in July celebration.

The movie, starring Torrey DeVitto and Chad Michael Murray, originally premiered on the Crown network in 2019 as part of the 10th anniversary of their Countdown to Christmas programming. Since its debut, Write Before Christmas has become an instant classic for Hallmarkies everywhere.

Write Before Christmas Synopsis

Jessica (DeVitto) recovers from a holiday season break-up with her boyfriend by sending five cards to people who have played important roles in her life. From there, a reaction ensues that changes everything. The five cards go to her neighbor, her brother in the military, her good friend, a former boy band star and a former teacher.

With each card that arrives at its destination, a holiday miracle occurs that brings people together in ways they didn’t see coming, setting off a chain reaction of holiday goodness. The big question, though, is whether Jessica can finally find true love for herself…

Write Before Christmas stars two familiar faces around the Hallmark Channel lineup with Torey DeVitto (Chicago Med, Pretty Little Liars) and Chad Michael Murray (Riverdale, One Tree Hill).

It also stars Lolita Davidovich (Paris, Wine and Romance), Drew Seeley (A Christmas for the Books) and Grant Show (Dynasty).

Write Before Christmas is included every year in Hallmark’s Countdown to Christmas holiday lineup as well as their Christmas in July celebration. It can be found on their Hallmark on Demand platform at certain times of the year, and it’s possible you’ll find it on their Hallmark Movies Now streaming service as well.
