Giancarlo Esposito is eager to join the MCU and we can’t imagine him playing any character other than Magneto after seeing this incredible concept art.

From the moment Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, Marvel fans have been anxiously waiting for Marvel Studios to announce their plans for the X-Men within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Although Marvel is keeping its cards close to its chest and has yet to announce a single X-Men-related project or casting for any of the franchise’s iconic characters fan buzz continues to grow and it’s only a matter of time before the master plan is revealed.

When the time comes for the X-Men to finally arrive in the MCU, one has to imagine Marvel will turn to the franchise’s major players to help launch the franchise. Just as we expect to see the X-Men’s biggest heroes such as Wolverine and Cyclops, it’s also expected Marvel will look to introduce some of the biggest villains in the franchise and there’s truly no villain more iconic than Magneto.

The character has been a staple in the comics, animated series, and 20th Century Fox films and there’s no denying he’ll quickly become one of the MCU’s most formidable foes when the time comes to introduce the character.

Following in the footsteps of Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender will be no easy feat. However, if there is any actor who has proven he has what it takes to play compelling and layered villains it’s Giancarlo Esposito

What Giancarlo Esposito could look like as Magneto in the MCU

As fans of Better Call Saul, The Boys, and The Mandalorian will tell you, Giancarlo Esposito has truly mastered the art of sinister roles on the small screen and what better way to further his resume than by taking on the role of the X-Men’s most notorious villain, Magneto.

Esposito has developed a true knack for bringing to life some of television’s most villainous characters and what is so unique about his acting abilities is the uniqueness he brings to playing each villain. So there is no denying he’d crush it as the X-Men’s top foil and would immediately elevate the franchise with his presence.

There’s no denying he’d be perfect for the role and now, thanks to the incredible concept art of artist ApexForm we have our first look at what he could look like in the role of Magneto if given the chance to play the part in the MCU.

In the stunning concept art, Esposito dons Magneto’s signature red and purple suit complete with the character’s iconic helmet which was designed to protect from telepathic attacks. What really ties the look together in a subtle way is the way in which the art sees Esposito using Magneto’s abilities to control Mjollnir.

And how can one not mention the sinister and cold look captured in Esposito’s expression which is so brand for the character who has quite the laundry list of dastardly deeds.

Will Giancarlo Esposito play Magneto in the MCU?

As Marvel has not yet announced any formal X-Men projects just yet, there have been no casting decisions revealed by Marvel Studios just yet. Because of this, it is unclear whether Giancarlo Esposito will play Magneto in the MCU.

Although Marvel has not yet announced who will play Magneto in the MCU, one thing that is clear is Esposito is eager to join the MCU and sees doing so as the next organic step in his career.

During an interview with Entertainment TonightEsposito revealed that he’d love to work with Marvel in the future and is more than happy to make the rumors a reality.

"“Well there’s been all these rumors about being with Marvel – I want to work with those guys. I put it out there all the time…  What they do is fantastic, and I want to do something enduring with them… I think the Marvel world would be, likely, the next step for me…”"

Whether he ends up playing Magneto or another iconic character remains uncertain, but one thing that’s clear is the ball is in Marvel’s court and Esposito is ready to play ball!
