This week on Everything’s Gonna Be Okay, while Nicholas and Alex are absorbed in a fight over Nicholas’s response to Alex’s parents divorcing, and Matlida and Drea figure out a new path forward, Genevieve decides to create something for herself: a vlog.

While her first video is a cute and informative video about Joan of Arc that she ends up deleting, her second video is much more raw and honest, taking shots at Nicholas and Alex without much thought before she posts it.

Genevieve is a quiet and contemplative character who we often see in relation to her sister and brother. But the first season finale revealed the quiet girl has a lot to say when she did a surprise stand-up set in New York to thunderous applause (brilliantly performed by her counterpart, Maeve Press, actual stand-up).

It isn’t surprising to see Genevieve continue to find ways to express herself as Nicholas and Matilda do the same. While she may be the youngest member of the household, Genevieve is still incisive, witty, and emotionally intelligent, often having to piece the family back together.

As her video gets more attention, we see the return of Genevieve’s funny, squealing friend, Barb, who, like all of us were during quarantine, is desperate for news outside of her immediate living space and is delighted to see anything crossing her feed.

Most notably, Genevieve attracts attention from boys, signaling a potential focus this season on Genevieve’s burgeoning sexuality as she and Barb talk throughout the episode about Barb’s random neurotic fears about sex.

While Genevieve is used to taking a backseat to Matilda, through vlogging, she finds not only a new way to express herself, but also to direct more attention to herself in a socially acceptable way that many young kids do by utilizing social media.

There will surely be many twists and turns along the way as Genevieve explores this new side of herself which we can’t wait to see.

Next. Everything’s Gonna Be Okay explores Nicholas’s relationship with his feelings. dark
