Long before McDreamy and McSteamy graced the halls of Seattle Grace, fans were tuning in to see the brilliant doctors of County General trying to save lives while navigating the complexities of life (and sometimes love) on NBC’s hit medical drama ER. It has been quite some time since the ER team has gotten together but they’re reuniting for the Earth Day edition of Stars in the House to help raise money and awareness for the Waterkeeper Alliance.

Members of the cast will appear on the live-stream series hosted by Seth Rudetsky and James Wesley on April 22 at 8pm ET.

Cast members expected to show up include George Clooney, Julianna Margulies, Noah Wyle, Anthony Edwards, Gloria Reuben, Laura Innes, Alex Kingston, Goran Visnjic, Paul McCrane, Ming-Na Wen, Lauren Ceron, Yvette Freeman and Connie Marie Brazelton.

ER is the gold standard of medical dramas

ER, which was created by Michael Crichton, ran for 15 seasons and set a very high bar for medical dramas that followed. They also fearlessly killed off a lead character before the practice became a standard for primetime medical dramas that followed. (Grey’s Anatomy, we’re looking at you!)

While the show was a work of fiction, like M.A.S.H. it didn’t shy away from the myriad issues facing medicine. County General was not a private hospital, which meant it was a grand central station for the homeless, crime victims and suspects, and people who couldn’t afford care. They tackled these issues with their trademark truthfulness, elevating the show from entertainment to a form of social commentary.

Reuben is the president of Waterkeeper Alliance and she’s very excited about the reunion and the spotlight on an organization that means so much to her. “I am absolutely thrilled to be reuniting with my ER family for a cause that is so close to my heart, and so grateful to Seth and James for allowing us to use their incredible platform to do so,” she said in a statement.

Next. Grey's Anatomy won't last forever and now it faces a more unstable future. dark
