The Real Magic Mike series release date, synopsis, cast, and more
By Cody Schultz
HBO Max is about to turn to yet another iconic Warner Bros. Pictures property with its new competition series The Real Magic Mike.
As the name suggests, the new series is inspired by Warner Bros. Pictures’ Magic Mike films which told the story of a group of male strippers with an all-star cast that included Channing Tatum, Joe Manganiello, Matt Bomer, Adam Rodriguez, Stephen “Twitch” Boss, and Matthew McConaughey.
The two Magic Mike films amassed an impressive combined $179 million for the studio and have since lead to the launch of the Magic Mike Live Las Vegas production, so it’s not surprising to see the studio is once again looking to expand the franchise.
So, what do we know about The Real Magic Mike so far? Let’s take a look.
What is The Real Magic Mike series about?
While the Magic Mike films were scripted projects, HBO Max’s The Real Magic Mike series will be a reality competition series looking to transform a group of ten men into real-life Magic Mikes.
Although learning some moves to rival the characters from the big screen, the series is a makeover series at heart in looking to help the contestants overcome the emotional baggage they’re carrying around and rediscover their confidence. At the end of it all, one man will be crowned the Real Magic Mike, a title which comes with a cash prize and the opportunity to join the Magic Mike Live show in Las Vegas.
Here is how HBO Max describes the show:
"From the producers behind the Magic Mike franchise and live shows comes an exhilarating and sexy series that will transform a group of men into real-life Magic Mikes. 10 men who have ‘lost their magic’ will come together in a competition series like no other. They will bare their souls and more as they evolve their bodies, learn to perform spectacular routines, and develop a new level of self-confidence. As they strip off their clothes, they will rid themselves of emotional baggage and regain their mojo but only one will be the Real Magic Mike. He will win a cash prize and an opportunity to perform on the blockbuster Magic Mike Live stage in Las Vegas"
The Real Magic Mike season 1 release date
At this time, HBO Max has not set a premiere date for The Real Magic Mike season 1 but it appears the show will be coming sometime in 2021. If we had to guess, it seems likely the show will premiere sometime in the late summer or early fall.
Is Channing Tatum going to be in The Real Magic Mike?
While Channing Tatum will be involved in the show, it appears he’ll be stepping behind the camera for the project rather than appearing as part of the show. While it seems likely Tatum could make a guest appearance or even appear as a host/judge, at the moment his only confirmed involvement is as an executive producer.
The Real Magic Mike season 1 cast
At this time, HBO Max has not yet announced the cast for The Real Magic Mike season 1 as casting for the show is currently underway. Given the series will be coming later this year, we should know the identities of the cast sometime before the first season arrives.
