A series based on Sarah J. Maas’ A Court of Thorns and Roses is coming to Hulu

Get excited, Sarah J. Maas fans: Streaming network Hulu is officially developing the author’s bestselling A Court of Thorns and Roses series for television.
(Yes, really.)
The Hulu project comes from Ron Moore, most recently known for Outlander, his Starz adaptation of Diana Gabaldon’s novels, and the critically acclaimed SYFY reboot of Battlestar Galactica. He’ll co-write at least the series’ pilot with Maas herself, who sounds pretty excited about the prospect.
“I’m currently hard at work writing the pilot with Ron (!!!!!), and while there is SO much more news to share with you guys about bringing this series to life, it just feels so great to finally be able to talk about this!” the author wrote on Instagram, calling Moore “one of [her] creative idols”.
A Court of Thorns and Roses, the first novel in five-book series (so far – there are at least two more to come.) The story is a loose retelling of Beauty and the Beast, just one that also involves faeries, seasonal royal courts full of magic that are tied to specific seasons and times of day, and complex internal politics between them.
It follows the story of Feyre Archeron, a young huntress who agrees to travel to a magical realm with a fairy lord in return for her impoverished family’s safety, only to fall for him and join his battle against an ancient curse. Warning: This story and its characters are all more than they appear at first glance. And that’s a great thing. Maas’ world-building skills and complicated female heroines are some of the best in fantasy fiction right now. Seeing that come to life on our screens is going to be pretty darn amazing.
Since the A Court of Thorns and Roses Hulu series is only in the very early stages of development there’s not much to share in terms of casting or a premiere date just yet. But we’ll keep you posted as more information is announced.
