Kaci Walfall will bring Naomi to life in Ava DuVernay’s adaptation of the popular comic book Naomi for the CW. She might be one of DC’s newest heroes but her story resonated with comic book fans who are eager to see her take flight in a television series.

Naomi is the brainchild of DC Comics’ Brian Michael Bendis and David F. Walker, who wrote the stories that were paired with gorgeous art from Jamal Campbell. Naomi is the story of a teenager from Oregon whose life turns upside down when she starts to ask questions about her life and her mysterious past.

According to Deadline, Naomi will be played by Kaci Walfall, and she will be joined by Alexander Wraith (Orange is the New Black) as Dee, Cranston Johnson (Filthy Rich) as Zumbado and newcomer Camila Moreno as Lourdes.

Naomi will join other DC superhero shows on the CW

The CW has long been the home for DC superheroes on the small screen, with the most recent addition being Superman & Lois. Naomi will fit right in on the CW, and given that her character frequently interacts with Batman and Superman there’s every reason to believe she’ll find her way into crossover events, too.

Walfall might be best known for her role in the Broadway adaptation of The Lion King. She’s a talented young actor who will bring Naomi’s youthful and inquisitive spirit to life.

DuVernay is working on several notable DC projects at the moment. She’s also working with DC writer Tom King to write the screenplay for The New Gods movie, which centers on Darkseid and the Female Furies. Now that Zack Snyder’s Justice League has debuted it’s unclear how DuVernay and King’s story will tie into Snyder’s version of Darkseid. (Interestingly, if not for the Snyder Cut, Darkseid would have made his live-action debut in The New Gods)

DuVernay will co-executive produce and write with Arrowverse’s Jill Blankenship.
