Disney and Pixar never fail to bring viewers a stunning, heartfelt adventure, and Luca looks like it’s going to be yet another successful addition to their reservoir. Set in a town on the Italian Riviera, the upcoming film will combine a regular coming-of-age story with a magical tale about sea monsters — and judging by the new trailer, it’s going to be a colorful and fun ride.

The teaser introduces viewers to the titular Luca Paguro and his best friends, all of whom intend to have an exciting summer full of adventures. It sees them exploring the Italian Riviera, with some stunning animated shots — right before it reveals the catch: Luca and his best friend,  Alberto Scorfano, are both sea monsters.

With all the water around, the two of them might have some trouble keeping that secret. The trailer shows a couple of close calls when it comes to hiding their true identities (and it’s anyone’s guess what would happen if people found out).

In addition to dropping the first official trailer, Pixar also announced the voice cast for the upcoming film, which will be helmed by Jacob Tremblay playing Luca himself. Jack Dylan Grazer will join Tremblay, voicing the film’s other teenage sea monster, Alberto. Also included in the voice cast are Maya Rudolph playing Luca’s mother, Jim Gaffigan playing Luca’s father, Emma Berman playing Luca’s friend Giulia, and Marco Barricelli playing Giulia’s father.

After Pixar’s most recent release, Soul, it’s easy to feel excited about another story from the studio. Pixar films constantly put viewers in their feelings. And although Luca looks lighthearted at first glance, it’s bound to conjure up some emotions by the end of the movie. We wouldn’t expect anything less.
