The New Amsterdam season 3 trailer reveals a changed world

Dam Fam, we’re less than a month out from the New Amsterdam season 3 premiere on March 2, and we finally have a trailer! Get your tissues ready, y’all, because this show is launching straight into the COVID crisis and its affect on the New Amsterdam crew.
According to NBC’s press release for the season, Max’s determination to change the healthcare system has reached new heights in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
The synopsis for season 3 describes the season as follows.
"When Dr. Max Goodwin (played by Ryan Eggold) took over New Amsterdam, he asked a simple, revolutionary question: ‘How can I help?’ In Season 3, Max and his team face the daunting task of sustaining that optimism while dealing with a pandemic that exposed the gaping inequities in our health care. Max is no longer content to fix a broken system. He’s determined to tear it down and build something better."
What does Max’s new mission mean for New Amsterdam? We can’t even begin to guess, but we presume the show will be tackling insurance issues, the hospital reaching max capacity, having to triage patients, and the consequences of the government struggling to rise to the needs of the pandemic.

An ongoing COVID storyline is sure to be a heavy start to the season, but New Amsterdam has always been a show that aspires to the best in humanity.
In the midst of the weighty story arcs the characters will most certainly be moving through, there will still be storylines centered on love, friendship, and the support this team find in one another. As well as non-COVID-related drama such as Iggy and Martin’s marital issues, Sharpe’s relationship with Shin and how Max feels about it, and Bloom’s healing relationship with her mom.
It’s a lot to speculate over especially in light of showrunner David Schulner stating: “The pandemic has forced all of our characters to reevaluate their lives. And one of them will leave New Amsterdam for good.”
Will it be Vijay whose life is hanging in the balance? What about Ella whose pregnancy should be coming to an end soon? Or maybe it will be someone we least expect. So many questions. We can’t wait until New Amsterdam returns!
