The first paranormal PassionFlix movie will be a ‘Wicked’ good time

2021 marks the year that PassionFlix will journey into a new genre with Wicked, a paranormal romance penned by bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout. Set in New Orleans, the story follows evil fae-fighting Ivy (Anna Maiche) and the mysterious Ren (Liam Hall), a man who captures Ivy’s attention like no other.

Taryn O’Neill marks her feature film directorial debut in the middle of a pandemic that challenged the cast and crew as they filmed on location in New Orleans. Filming wrapped in the fall, and the movie is set to arrive on PassionFlix later this year. During a recent episode of the Passion Pod podcast, PassionFlix CEO Tosca Musk revealed that she’s seen a rough first cut of the film and she’s very excited about everything that she saw.

One of the most noteworthy aspects of the film is the fact that it’s unlike any other PassionFlix film to date. As a paranormal romance with lots of mystical elements, the visual effects alone set it apart from anything else fans have seen and that’s one of the reasons the movie is taking slightly longer to release than some of the other PassionFlix films.

The wait will be worth it, though. O’Neill has generously shared several behind-the-scenes photos and seeing Andrew P. Rogers in a harness so that he can fly around a green screen will be so well worth it. (Tink is already poised to be a standout star who, along with his collection of troll dolls, deserves his own Quickie…)

Wicked brings paranormal romance to PassionFlix

Wicked features some very steamy romance and a heavy dose of fantasy, but there’s a lot of action sequences in the story and that means Maiche and Hall had to do a lot of really cool stunts. With Wicked, PassionFlix now has its own action stars, too.

A recently shared image of Maiche’s Ivy, presumably staring down her enemy with a nasty cut on her forehead, proves that she’s not messing around.

Ivy’s also not a damsel in distress and she’s capable of defending herself against the evil fae…but perhaps not from Ren’s allure.

With Wicked set to launch in 2021, all eyes will be on the future of paranormal romance at PassionFlix. Vampires, shapeshifters, and immortal highlanders could show up next, with no end of stories to choose from. It seems fitting, though, that a steamy tale of love and fantasy set in the magical city of New Orleans is the movie that takes PassionFlix into a whole new realm.
