Black Lightning season 4 release date, cast, trailer, and more
With COVID-related production delays, it’s been a while since Arrowverse fans have seen the Pierce family, but that all changes when the fourth and final season of Black Lightning arrives this month.
The announcement that this upcoming season would bring the groundbreaking CW series to a close came as a surprise to many — and spirits were only slightly lifted at the news of a Painkiller spin-off in development at the network.
Still, given that some recently cancelled series didn’t even get to take a last bow, it’s a relief that viewers will get to spend time with these characters once more before the curtains close on Black Lightning.
So, what do we know about the fourth and final season so far?
Black Lightning season 4 release date
The fourth season of Black Lightning is slated to premiere on February 8 at 9 p.m. ET. The season premiere, titled “The Book of Reconstruction: Chapter One,” will see Jefferson Pierce coping with the events of the third season finale, and more specifically, the death of Detective Henderson.
The synopsis for the fourth season premiere reads as follows:
"“Jefferson Pierce is still mourning the death of his long-time friend Detective Henderson. Meanwhile, Gambi is presented with an interesting opportunity. Lastly, Lynn and Jefferson are still not able to see eye to eye.”"
Black Lightning season 4 cast
The majority of the main cast members will return for Black Lightning‘s final outing, with the following stars reprising their roles:
- Cress Williams as Jefferson Pierce/Black Lightning

- China Anne McClain as Jennifer Pierce

- Marvin “Krondon” Jones III as Tobias Whale
- James Remar as Peter Gambi

Black Lightning season 4 trailer
The official trailer for season four of Black Lightning sees Jefferson Pierce taking a new approach to his superhero career. “I can no longer be the man I was,” he says in the footage. “Black Lightning was trying to save the world. I’m just trying to save my family.” He goes on to insist that the hero is dead, but it looks like his supporters aren’t giving up quite so easily.
From that alone, fans can surmise that Jefferson is going to be struggling with his identity and his responsibilities as Black Lightning in the show’s final episodes.
Of course, given all the action in the trailer, we have to assume Jefferson’s stance on Black Lightning won’t last too long…right?
