On My Block renewed for fourth and final season at Netflix
By Shaun Stacy
Netflix has officially renewed the coming-of-age dramedy On My Block for a fourth and final season. Cast members including Sierra Capri, Jason Genao, Brett Gray, Diego Tinoco, Jessica Marie Garcia, and Julio Macias all signed on to return for the last 10 episodes of the series. The show’s co-creator, Lauren Iungerich, will also be returning as showrunner. Production is slated to begin in early March, though it is still unclear if the final season will air this year or in 2022.
The news of the renewal comes on the heels of stars Capri, Genao, Gray, Tinoco, and Garcia, negotiated substantial salary increases that included a potential fourth and fifth season. Netflix has a nasty habit of ending scripted television series after only three or four seasons, since the cost of producing a show skyrockets later on.
The series won’t be alone, as other Netflix series such as Atypical, Dead To Me, Dear White People, and Grace and Frankie are also expected to conclude by the end of this year. This brings an end to one of the streaming platform’s most popular shows, beating out Making a Murderer, The Haunting of Hill House, and 13 Reasons Why to become the No. 1 most-binged show of 2018 on the streaming platform.

The critically acclaimed series centers around a group of high school friends who navigate their way through the ups and downs of life in an inner-city neighborhood of Los Angeles. At the end of season three, the show went through a time jump that found most of the group separated in some shape or form. Monse (Capri) relocated to a safer school district, Jamal (Gray) became a popular football star, and Cesar (Tinoco) is the new leader of the Santos gang. If there’s one bright side, it’s that Ruby (Genoa) and Jasmine (Garcia) are now an official couple!
