What the Harry Potter series taught fans about caring for each other
Friendship is an important part of the Harry Potter series and now, more than ever, we have to remember to be there for each other in this fandom.
One of the main things about the Harry Potter fandom that is special is our ability to care for one another. The series did a great job of teaching us about the importance of friendship and that’s more important now than ever before.
This series isn’t about hate. It’s about love and acceptance and while things on the creative side are not where we want them to be, we can remember that lesson as fans and be there for those that J.K. Rowling and her words have hurt.
For the most part, this series is something that fans clung to. We found a home in Hogwarts and we wanted to be there for each other because that’s what Harry Potter and his friends did for one another. So now, when we’re looking toward the hatred being spread by the series’ creator, we can remember that we’re all there for each other.
Rowling and her transphobic tweets is disappointing. There is no argument about that. But we have each other and while many of us do not want to support her after she made her stance known, we can be there for one another because of what the series taught us.
Hogwarts is always there to welcome us home and that’s still true, even if we don’t want to consume anything that Rowling writes or creates. It’s there because of those friendships we’ve made and the people who loved the series along with us.
So, remember to be there for each other. To care for the trans community and accept each other because we’re all friends and if this series taught us anything, it’s that we look out for our friends and protect them.
