Golden Girls alum Betty White celebrates 99 golden years
Legendary TV icon and Golden Girl Betty White is celebrating her 99th birthday! See what she has planned for her special day.
Betty White — who has been in show business for more than 80 years — plans to have a low-key celebration in honor of her big day. Per Entertainment Weekly, the Golden Girls alum plans to feed the ducks who visit her daily at her LA home. White is a passionate animal lover and advocate, and sharing that love is a vital part of her life.
And her birthday meal? A hotdog with French fries, which will delivered by her agent, Jeff Witjas. (Add in a little dessert and that sounds like the perfect celebratory dinner to us!)
As for her bedtime, White joked to the Associated Press, “Since I am turning 99, I can stay up as late as I want without asking permission!” That’s about as “party animal” as it gets in this day and age, and good on her for treating herself to a fun evening.
Speaking to AP about her birthday, White also shared some secrets to living a long and healthy life. She emphasized having a great sense of humor, seeing the positive, and not taking yourself “too seriously.”
"“Don’t take yourself too seriously,” she said. “You can lie to others — not that I would — but you cannot lie to yourself.”“I don’t like the other side,” said White. “The positive side is a lot more fun.”"
Of course, being blessed with overall good health helps tremendously as well. (Good thing White has been — we don’t know what we’d do without her!)
Roles of a lifetime
Aside from starring as Rose Nyland from St. Olaf on The Golden Girls, Betty had lucrative roles on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Hot In Cleveland, Mama’s Family, and her own show, Life With Elizabeth in the 1950s. White even guest-voiced on The Simpsons and Family Guy, giving the animated series an extra laugh factor.
The complete series of The Golden Girls is currently available to stream on Hulu. If you’re looking for your own way to honor Betty White on her birthday, why not revisit some of the show’s classic episodes?
