Daredevil might have been cancelled at Netflix, but it could return on Disney+

Marvel boss Kevin Feige isn’t one to mince words, and when he says something it’s worth paying attention. As Feige has been making the rounds to promote WandaVision he’s been fielding questions about other big name properties around the Marvel Universe. When Daredevil came up, Feige’s response was interesting, to say the least.

In a conversation with Collider, Feige opened up about how Charlie Cox, also known as the fearless Daredevil, might work into the current stories in the MCU:

"I look at anything that’s happened before, whether it’s our movies, whether it’s Marvel entertainment TV series, in particular, obviously the comics, video games, cartoons, all of it is available as inspiration for the future of Marvel. That’s the way that comics have worked for many years. So, we’ll see."

Naturally, Feige isn’t going to give anything away about Daredevil’s return until it’s time to do so, but the wording of his response suggests that between the vast world of possibilities opened up through the new Disney+ platform in conjunction with the MCU, Daredevil could have a place somewhere. You never know where a character could pop up, and with so many theatrical, animated and television projects in the works at Marvel, there’s every reason to think that Daredevil could make a return.

Fans were very disappointed when Daredevil was cancelled at Netflix but looking back to the decision, which came roughly three years ago, Daredevil and the other Marvel shows on Netflix were among the first victims of the budding streaming wars. Marvel likely knew that Disney+ was coming and didn’t want to extend their intellectual property into a long-term contract at another streamer.

Cancelling the show at Netflix frees the property up to be resurrected at Disney+ and gives Marvel full creative control. It makes sense from both a creative and financial perspective, and it’s the way things will be moving forward as studios move to keep their IP on their own streaming services.

Though there is no official word about Daredevil’s return, a wait and see approach is the best way to go because these days there’s no reason that Charlie Cox won’t magically show up again, and we’re here for it when it happens.
