The 100 prequel series is still alive at The CW (for now)
Green Arrow and the Canaries may not be moving forward at The CW, but The 100 prequel is still in talks.
The 100 prequel is still very much a topic of discussion at The CW.
Deadline reported last week that, while the network doesn’t plan to move forward with its Green Arrow and the Canaries spin-off, the sci-fi prequel series based on the first Apocalypse and the forming of the Grounder clans still has a strong contention, albeit that it has been months since the backdoor pilot, “Anaconda,” aired.
“Anaconda” consisted of an episode-long flashback exploring how nuclear war destroyed Earth 97 years before The 100‘s series premiere. It also delved more deeply into the Grounder mythology and the story of the Second Dawn cult.
The backdoor pilot also introduced us to Callie Cadogan (Lola Evans), a free-spirited young woman who goes against her father, Bill Cadogan’s (John Pyper-Ferguson) zealous ideals as people are being rejected to survive due to societal placement. (In other words, the more money a person has, the more privilege they will have, and thus, a greater chance of surviving.)
While it has not been formally and officially confirmed that the prequel has been greenlit, fans still want the pre-apocalyptic series to take off. And it’s somewhat promising it wasn’t nixed alongside the Arrow spin-off.
However, the pilot’s talent options expired last year, so whether the stars introduced in the backdoor pilot will reprise their roles remains to be seen. It’s also possible new actors will be brought on to bring the characters to life. It all depends on the final decision about this prequel series.
The journey of The 100 has been truly a heartbreaking one. Each season, fans were exposed to raw and gritty storylines (there were good moments painted in), had to say goodbye to favorite characters, and met new ones. It was a never-ending Circle of Life and Clarke Griffin was the front and center of it.
The 100‘s story may be over, but maybe there is hope for a new story to take light with the prequel. “Anaconda” introduced The 100‘s rich history, and that should be explored.
