Promising Young Woman will be available on VOD platforms this January

Emerald Fennell’s controversial new film Promising Young Woman has everyone clamoring to see it – and it’ll hit VOD services sooner than you think.
Promising Young Woman is one of the buzziest films of the moment – a shocking, controversial, and divisive revenge tale. (At least if early critics’ reviews are anything to go by.)
The only problem is – it released in theaters on December 25. Only in theaters. Who, may I ask, is going to the movies right now? No one, obviously – thanks a lot, coronavirus – so it’s been a long two weeks of dodging spoilers and takes online left and right.
Thankfully, our entertainment nightmare is almost over. Promising Young Woman is officially coming to VOD platforms, and sooner than most of us likely expected.
According to Focus Features, Promising Young Woman will be available at home on demand for a 48-hour rental period beginning on Friday, January 15th.
This means you’ll be able to rent the movie on platforms like iTunes, Amazon Prime, Google Play, Vudu, FandangoNow, or wherever you prefer to purchase your digital content. It will come with a premium fee – the initial price point is $19.99, though that could change depending on your platform of choice.
Promising Young Woman stars Carey Mulligan and comes to us from Emerald Fennell, whom you likely know from her either her role as Camilla Parker Bowles on The Crown or her work as the showrunner for the second season of Killing Eve. (Truly, this woman can do everything!)
Here’s the official synopsis for the film.
"From visionary director Emerald Fennell (Killing Eve) comes a delicious new take on revenge. Everyone said Cassie (Carey Mulligan) was a promising young woman… until a mysterious event abruptly derailed her future. But nothing in Cassie’s life is what it appears to be: she’s wickedly smart, tantalizingly cunning, and she’s living a secret double life by night. Now, an unexpected encounter is about to give Cassie a chance to right the wrongs of the past in this thrilling and wildly entertaining story."
In truth, more films should follow this release model, even after the pandemic ends. Quick digital access is a win-win for everybody. If only because it means we don’t have to dodge spoilers about this movie until Valentine’s Day.
