Would a new broomstick be like the Wizarding World’s next-gen console?

As the Christmas shopping season gets kicked into full gear, I wondered what would be the most comparable item to the Muggle next-gen console?

I, like most people this season, have been wildly unsuccessful in procuring a new PS5 from one of the many retailers dropping them on their websites. It got me to wondering what would be the equivalent in the Wizarding World? It would have to be the latest, greatest broomstick on the market.

Broomsticks are known to be owned by every wizarding family, with models ranging from the common Cleansweep to the fascinating Firebolt. There was also the broomsticks manufactured by the Comet Trading Company, which were numbered similarly to how Microsoft has named their XBOX line, with the first iteration being the Comet 140, and the last known model mentioned in the books being the Comet 290. The 290 was the first model to go with an odd number, so there is room to speculate that we could have a Comet 760 on the market today.

The creme de la creme of the broomstick, and Quidditch, world has to be the Nimbus and Firebolt line. In the books, we learn that there is a Nimbus 2000 and Nimbus 2001, so again we can assume they would follow the same naming pattern and we could be all the way up to a Nimbus 2020 (what a nightmare that broom would be). The Firebolt, on the other hand, has only two known models, the Firebolt and the Firebolt Supreme.

This is the brand of broom that everyone fawned over, and seemed to be the most expensive broom in the world. Some have tried to guess how much it would have cost in Muggle money, with hypothesis being as high as $16,000. We could be up to a fifth version of the Firebolt by 2020, creating an XBOX vs PS5 style face off between the Firebolt and Nimbus line that would have to be settled with what kind of new technology had been built in. The biggest differentiator would be speed, but also control for players who wanted to be the best Seekers in the game.

It would be great to get more information on the business of broomsticks, and how the Wizarding World reacts when multiple new versions are introduced. Hopefully we can get a story or two on that in the near future.

Do you think broomsticks would be the hot holiday item? What would you name the newest Firebolt model?
