Sam Rockwell, Saoirse Ronan, and David Oyelowo have been cast in a new murder mystery film — and we are so ready for it.

Who doesn’t love a murder mystery? The not knowing who did it, the red herring, the intrigue of finding clues. It all makes for a thrilling story. Knives Out and Agatha Christie aren’t popular for nothing! (Okay, the cast of Knives Out might have had something to do with its popularity, but still.)

Now we are getting a new murder mystery set in 1950s London, and so far, it has a cast that rivals the Knives Out one. The film will star Sam Rockwell, Saoirse Ronan, and David Oyelowo. The project doesn’t have a title yet, so it’s certainly going to be a while before it hits theaters or before we even see a trailer, but the news that it’s happening is enough for me.

The film will be about a Hollywood producer trying to adapt a popular West End play. The only problem is…people keep dying on set! That’s when the detectives come in. Sam Rockwell will play the veteran Inspector Stoppard while Saorise Ronan will play his new partner, Constable Stalker.

Not only do we get a female constable in the ’50s (how many more all-male British police shows do we need?), but her last name is Stalker. That’s got to be a sign of something bad to come, right? Or at least it means the character was made fun of relentlessly in school.

The film will be director Tom George’s first foray into the film world. Most recently, he did direct and write on the award-winning BBC sitcom This Country. The producer of Meryl Streep’s Iron Lady, Damian Jones, and screenwriter Mark Chappell have also signed on to the project. Mark Chappell worked on both Netflix’s Flaked and Daniel Radcliffe and Jon Hamm’s A Young Doctor’s Notebook & Other Stories.

As a murder mystery fanatic, I cannot wait for this film to come out. We’ll definitely be waiting at least a year since a date for production hasn’t even been set, but I have a feeling, with this cast and this premise, it will be worth the wait.

Next. Happiest Season is a funny and poignant film. dark
