We could all use a little humor after 2020, and it looks like we’ll be getting some early next year. The Friends reunion is now slated to arrive in 2021.

If any year has us missing simpler times, it’s this one. Perhaps that’s why so many reunions for old television series are in the works — the long-awaited Friends one among them. Of course, people have been calling for the Friends gang to pull a Ross and Rachel and get back together since way before 2020. And although they finally agreed to, COVID-related delays have had fans waiting even longer for the project to arrive.

It seems like we may finally have an actual release timeline though, even if it’s a tad later than expected. According to Matthew Perry, the Friends reunion is now slated to film in March of 2021 — meaning, if all goes accordingly, we’re likely to see the finished product hit HBO Max either next spring or next summer.

“Friends reunion being rescheduled for the beginning of March,” Perry write on Twitter. “Looks like we have a busy year coming up!”

Per The Hollywood Reporter, this new date places the Friends reunion a full year later than it was initially intended to happen. The reunion special was scheduled to start filming in March this year, right before the COVID-19 health crisis arrived and pushed everything back. Following that, the gang was tentatively considering filming over the summer — but since then, more delays have gotten in the way.

All of the main stars from the original series are returning for the reunion special, including Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matthew Perry, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer. Despite all of the hurdles to jump over, however, Aniston has promised the special will be well worth the wait. (Let’s hope she’s right!)
