Rutina Wesley

Where you know her from: How She Move, True Blood, and Queen Sugar

A graduate of Juilliard, Rutina Wesley landed her first starring role as the lead in 2007’s hit step-dancing film How She Move. From 2008-2014, she portrayed fan favorite Tara Thornton on HBO’s sexy vampire series, True Blood, as Sookie Stackhouse’s best friend-turned-vampire.

After True Blood ended, Rutina had recurring roles in NBC’s Hannibal and The CW’s Arrow before landing her next series regular role as journalist and activist Nova Bordelon in Queen Sugar. Queen Sugar was also based on a book, but the character of Nova was created specifically for the television series. Rutina routinely gives emotional performances in every character she portrays and has won several awards for her work, including a Black Reel Award for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series (Queen Sugar).

Following up on the previous notion of using newer, lesser known characters for the new team of X-Men soon to make their MCU debut, Rutina could easily put her talents into portraying the character of Frenzy. Although she originally debuted as one of Magneto’s Acolytes, Frenzy eventually joined the side of good and became a member of the X-Men. She actually marries Cyclops in one of the many alternate timelines that have been depicted throughout the years.

Possessing steel-hard skin that makes her resistant to most forms of physical injury, Frenzy also has superhuman strength, on par with the likes of Spider-Man and She-Hulk. Rutina would shine in the role of a flawed character wanting to make a positive change in her life by becoming a hero.
