Great news for female-led Netflix shows: Never Have I Ever season 2 starts filming this month
After Netflix has canceled so many other female-led series, filming on season 2 of Never Have I Ever is finally under way.
The cat was out of the bag already about Netflix’s Never Have I Ever, with news that production had already started on Season 2 a few weeks ago, with the cast of the show sharing the news with fans live on Facebook, in a way that was so Devi.
The offbeat way cast members got distracted by the show’s star, Maitreyi’s new quarantine look is everything we love about this charming show.
The zoom call included cast members Maitreyi Ramakrishnan (Devi), Ramona Young (Eleanor), Lee Rodriguez (Fabiola), Richa Moorjani (Kamala), Poorna Jagannathan (Nalini), Jaren Lewison (Ben), Darren Parnet (Paxton). The hilarious, confusing call was the perfect way to finally allow Maitreyi to get to the big announcement about Never Have I Ever.
Coming on the heels of Netflix canceling several diverse and female-led series, it’s refreshing to know that this adorable show will begin production this month. It also speaks volumes in the confidence they have for a series to be led by a complete unknown, even with the famous name of Mindy Kaling attached as showrunner and creator.
Ramakrishnan may seem tailor-made for the role of Devi Vishwakumar, but her only previous acting experience included a high school play. She is now carrying a high-profile Netflix series and doing a fine job at it.
Ramakrishnan herself is hoping that Kaling will make an appearance in the second season.
"“Mindy needs to be on season 2,” The 18 year-old Ramakrishnan said to ET. “That’s not negotiable. She needs to be on season 2. That would be awesome to be able to act with her! That’d be so jokes. Anybody could play a family member. She could play somebody in the school. She could do whatever.”"
Series co-creator Kaling thrilled fans of her series by dressing up as the main character from Never Have I Ever, Devi for Halloween (how cool is that?), alongside friends Elena Dole and Devyn Holbrook as Ben Gross and Paxton Hall-Yoshida.

Never Have I Ever starts filming this month, and will hopefully be ready to air in 2021. This is great news for a series that celebrates diversity and helmed by a female lead as well as a female writer.
